Snow Bengal Cats
Echoing the elegance of the snow leopard through beauty, grace, and Bengal character.
Elegant Beauty • Lighter Colours • Distinctively Bengal
Snow Bengals offer a softer and more delicate expression of the Bengal breed while preserving the intelligence, confidence, and striking patterns that make Bengals so distinctive. Available in Snow Lynx, Snow Mink, and Snow Sepia varieties, Snow Bengals are admired for their lighter backgrounds, beautiful eye colours, and exceptional elegance.

What Is a Snow Bengal Cat?
A Snow Bengal is a Bengal cat that inherits colourpoint-related genes originally introduced during the breed’s development. Snow Bengals are recognised in three main varieties: Lynx Point, Mink, and Sepia. These variations influence coat colour, eye colour, contrast, and how the pattern develops as the cat matures.
Snow Bengal Facts:
- Snow Bengals are not albino.
- Snow Bengals remain true Bengal cats.
- Same breed, different colour expression.
- Pattern can be spotted, rosetted, marble, charcoal, or glittered.
- Coat colour develops gradually during growth.
Snow Bengals are not albino cats and remain true Bengal cats in every respect. The Snow colour simply represents a different genetic expression within the breed. Depending on their genetics, Snow Bengals may display spotted, rosetted, marble, charcoal, or glittered coats. Most Snow kittens are born lighter in colour and gradually develop greater contrast and pattern definition as they mature.

Snow Bengal Colours Explained
Snow Bengals occur in three recognised colour variations: Lynx Point, Mink, and Sepia. Each variety is influenced by different colourpoint gene combinations, producing distinct coat shades, eye colours, and levels of contrast
Recognise Snow Colour Variations
Although all Snow Bengals belong to the same breed, each variation has its own unique appearance. Some display icy blue eyes and pale coats, while others develop richer cream tones and stronger contrast. Understanding these differences helps prospective owners appreciate the remarkable diversity found within the Snow Bengal colour group.
Snow Lynx Bengal (cs/cs)

The Snow Lynx Bengal is the lightest Snow variety. Kittens are often born almost white and gradually develop their markings over time. Adult Lynx Bengals retain striking blue eyes throughout life.
Snow Mink Bengal (cb/cs)

Snow Mink Bengals typically display warm ivory coats with beautiful aqua or turquoise eyes. Many owners appreciate the balance between coat contrast and softer colouring.
Snow Sepia Bengal (cb/cb)

Snow Sepia Bengals are generally the darkest Snow variety. They often develop richer cream tones, stronger pattern contrast, and gold or green eyes.
Snow Bengal Genetics
Snow Bengal colouring is produced by specific colourpoint gene combinations. These genes influence pigment production and determine whether a Bengal develops as a Lynx Point, Mink, or Sepia.
Genetic Combinations
The Snow Bengal colour group is created through the interaction of two recognised colourpoint alleles. The Siamese allele (cs) and Burmese allele (cb) influence how pigment is expressed within the coat. Different combinations of these genes produce the three Snow Bengal varieties while having no impact on the cat’s temperament or personality.
| Variety | Genetic Combination |
|---|---|
| Snow Lynx | cs/cs |
| Snow Mink | cb/cs |
| Snow Sepia | cb/cb |
Advanced Snow Bengal Colour Variations
Beyond the three recognised Snow Bengal colour varieties, additional genetic combinations can produce unique appearances. These include Silver Snow, Solid Snow and Snow Charcoal Bengals, each resulting from separate genes acting alongside the Snow colourpoint genetics.
Additional Snow Bengal Variations
Unique Expressions . The Snow Bengal colour group extends beyond the three traditional varieties. Additional genes can interact with Snow genetics to create fascinating variations in colour, contrast, and pattern expression. Understanding these combinations provides a deeper insight into the remarkable diversity found within the Bengal breed.
Silver Snow Bengals.

A Silver Snow Bengal combines Snow Bengal genetics with the inhibitor gene (I), which reduces warm pigment throughout the coat. The result is a cooler, cleaner appearance with reduced cream or golden tones.
At Bengalheritage, the most commonly recognised example is the Silver Snow Lynx Bengal, which combines the Snow Lynx colourpoint genotype (cs/cs) with the inhibitor gene. These Bengals often display striking pale coats, strong contrast, and clear blue eyes.
Solid Snow Bengals.

Solid Snow Bengals are produced when Snow colourpoint genetics are combined with the non-agouti genotype (a/a). This creates the Snow equivalent of a melanistic Bengal.
Unlike traditional Snow Bengals, the pattern is largely suppressed by the non-agouti gene, although subtle ghost markings may still be visible depending on lighting, age, and individual expression.
Charcoal Snow Bengals.

Snow Charcoal Bengals combine Snow Bengal genetics with the distinctive charcoal patterning produced by the Asian leopard cat agouti allele (Apb) paired with the domestic non-agouti allele (a).
The genotype (Apb/a) typically produces darker facial markings, a characteristic mask, dorsal striping, and increased contrast throughout the coat.
Non-Traditional Snow Genetics
Unique Genetic Expression
While Snow Bengals are traditionally grouped into Lynx, Mink, and Sepia varieties, additional genes can interact with these colourpoint combinations to create further variations. The inhibitor gene (Silver), non-agouti gene (Solid), and charcoal genotype (Apb/a) may each be combined with Snow Bengal genetics, producing a wide range of unique appearances while remaining part of the recognised Snow Bengal colour group.
| Variety | Colour Genetics | Additional Genes |
|---|---|---|
| Silver Snow Lynx | cs/cs | I/i |
| Solid Snow Lynx | cs/cs | a/a |
| Charcoal Snow Lynx | cs/cs | Apb/a |
*These combinations demonstrate the remarkable diversity that exists within the Snow Bengal colour group. Although their appearance may vary considerably, each remains fundamentally a Snow Bengal, with additional genes influencing coat colour, pattern visibility, contrast, and overall expression. Note: These combinations also apply to Snow Minks and Sepias.
How Snow Bengal Kittens Change as They Grow
Snow Bengal kittens often undergo noticeable colour development during their first year. Patterns become clearer, contrast increases, and the coat gradually develops its mature appearance.
Birth
Snow Bengal kittens are often born much lighter than they will appear as adults. In Snow Lynx kittens, markings may initially be faint and difficult to distinguish.

8 Weeks
Pattern definition begins to emerge, although contrast may still be relatively soft compared with the adult coat.

16 Weeks
The rosettes, spotting, and facial markings become easier to identify, and individual colour characteristics start to develop.

6 Months
Most kittens display noticeably increased contrast and pattern visibility. The coat often begins to resemble its adult appearance.

12 Months
The majority of colour development has occurred, although some Bengals continue to mature beyond their first birthday.

Adult Coat
Full maturity may not be reached until 18–24 months of age. Pattern contrast, coat texture, and overall appearance can continue to improve during this period.

Snow Bengal Temperament
Avoid linking temperament to colour!
Snow Bengals share the same behavioural characteristics found throughout the Bengal breed. Their temperament is influenced by genetics, socialisation, environment, routine, and individual personality rather than coat colour.
